Black Licorice Recalled Due to Lead Contamination

If you're a black licorice lover, watch out! Red Vines has announced a voluntary recall of one-pound bags of their black licorice with a "Best Before Date" of 020413. The licorice comes in a plastic bag with red lines and text, a clear window showing the black licorice inside, and the "Best Before" date stamped in black ink on the back of the package. The reason for the recall? Trace amounts of lead have been found in the licorice by the California Department of Public Health.

According to one article, the amount of lead found in one serving of the contaminated licorice is double the amount deemed safe for young children. Red Vines is asking customers to return any bags of licorice that might be affected to the place of purchase for a full refund. If you have young children who have consumed the licorice, or if you're pregnant and have consumed any, it's recommended that you see a doctor to make sure everything is okay.
