Apple pie. Caramel apples. These two classic apple desserts don't usually have much to do with each other...until now. I took inspiration from my favorite pie to create my new favorite caramel apple recipe: Apple Pie Caramel Apples
. A juicy, crisp apple is covered with chewy caramel, then dipped in a coating of cinnamon-flavored white chocolate. To really reinforce the "pie" similarities, crunchy shortbread cookie pieces are pressed against the white chocolate. The shortbread is buttery and not too sweet, so it really captures the spirit of pie crust and is the perfect finishing touch for these apples.
These treats were so good, I wanted to make them look extra-special too. So if you want to dress your apples up like I did, fit a patterned paper straw over the lollipop stick in the apple, trim it to fit the top, and secure it at the base with a dab of melted chocolate. Easy as pie!
